How we print

We combine traditional letterpress with foil stamping, debossing, die cutting, and digital white ink. Most of our work uses more than one technique — and we handle all of it in our studio in Alexandria, Louisiana.

Letterpress printing press creating a deep impression

Letterpress Printing

A raised photopolymer plate presses into soft paper under heavy pressure, transferring ink and leaving a tactile impression you can feel with your fingertips. The impression — that satisfying bite into the paper — is the defining quality of letterpress. Each ink color requires a separate plate and a separate pass through the press.

Foil Stamping

A heated copper die presses metallic or pigment foil onto paper, bonding it permanently to the surface. Unlike ink, foil is completely opaque — light colors like white and gold print cleanly on dark paper. Gold foil for names with letterpress ink for body text is one of the most popular combinations we print.

Blind Debossing

A letterpress impression with no ink — just the impression itself pressed into the paper. The design is visible only through light, shadow, and touch. Blind debossing is often used for borders, patterns, monograms, or logos alongside inked or foiled text on the same piece.

Die Cutting

A custom steel die cuts paper into any shape — rounded corners, arches, scalloped edges, or fully custom silhouettes. The printing is applied first, then the piece is die cut to shape. We produce dies in-house, so turnaround is fast and shapes can be as simple or complex as your design requires.

White ink printing on dark paper

White Ink Printing

Digital white ink prints opaque white directly onto dark or colored paper. Letterpress ink is transparent, so white letterpress on dark stock does not work — digital white ink solves that. We use it on its own or combined with letterpress and foil on the same piece for maximum contrast.

Most pieces use more than one technique

Letterpress ink for body text, gold foil for names, a blind debossed border, and a custom die cut shape — we combine techniques on a single piece every day. Tell us what you are making and we will recommend the right combination.
